Striper Bite is Picking Up

We have some great fishing news our striper bite is picking up here along the shores of the Colorado River below the Davis Dam. Not much word from up on Lake Mohave mostly due to the wind. When the wind picks up on the Lake it can get pretty rough out there. The marina will usually post wind warnings or small craft warning for boaters but you should always check a weather report and let some one know when and where you going before going out on the water.
Both of our local anglers were using anchovies to land these nice catches of stripers. Mike Merrett was fishing off his sea doo in the lower big bend area. He reported he mostly just baited hooks as both Russel and Evan Mynk were having a great time landing these stripers. This size is running now and seem to be a bunch of them. I like to say keep these so the other ones out there will grow bigger. Speaking of which Gabriel Rosales with his son Adrian landed a 40 and 1/4 in striper in the 20 pound range. Gabe was fishing from shore at Davis camp using anchovies. This size fish can peel off some line so when fishing for these guys make sure you have a good knot and have the drag set to make a successful battle in your favor. With the smaller strippers running this size can be a big surprise. Both are great catches and will make some super fish meals for friends and family.
We hope to have some Topock area news and I am sure Lake Mohave will be producing some great catches soon. Now that our weather is warming up the winds will slow a bit and anglers are on the way. Hope this helps for now and we look forward to seeing you in soon mostly thanks for all of your support.
