7.36lb. Striper

We have some Colorado River news this week! Local angler Mitch Jones was fishing from shore in the community park area and landed a nice-sized striper weighing 7.36 pounds and measuring 28 inches. He was using a swim bait in a trout pattern. This is good news, as lures are starting to produce larger stripers, which have mostly been caught using anchovies in the 1 to 3-pound range. It looks like the bigger fish are starting to come in.
Up on Lake Mohave, trolling for stripers is the way to go. Keep an eye out for boils, and you can use either anchovies or small jigs to land a few stripers. The fish boils move around, so you’ll have to hunt a bit—watch for birds diving into the ripples for clues.
There hasn’t been much word from the marsh lately, but the river is active. The area near the casinos, along the community park and Rotary Park, is producing stripers. Speaking of Rotary Park, we’ve had some nice trout plants, though the stocking truck from the hatchery is currently having some mechanical issues. I’m sure they’ll have it repaired soon and back on the road. We’re all looking forward to the rainbow trout being stocked again—Willow Beach Hatchery raises the best trout, and the crew there does an excellent job.
Thanks to everyone who came down to the fishing clinic and caught their first fish—we had a blast helping out. Thanks also for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you again to share your catch.
Now go catch a fish!
