A Great Start to the New Year!

The striped bass bite is off to a strong start this season! Local angler Ron Barnett was fishing at Community Park, casting a swim bait from the shore when he landed an impressive trophy fish. This striped bass weighed in at 26.46 pounds and measured 41 inches in length—quite the catch along the shores of the Colorado River below the Davis Dam.

Bullhead City Community Park is also a prime spot for rainbow trout. These trout are stocked from the Willow Beach Hatchery, and the team there is doing an excellent job of raising quality fish for both local and visiting anglers. For those targeting trout, nightcrawlers and PowerBait are your best bet for limiting out, while spinners such as the Panther Martin, Blue Fox, and Thomas Buoyant are producing well. Some anglers are also having success with Berkley jigs and Mouse Tails. If one technique isn’t working, try switching things up to land your limit of five trout below the Davis Dam.

Up on Lake Mohave, the striped bass bite has moved deeper. Anglers are finding success trolling bucktail jigs on lead lines. Swim baits in white or shadow patterns are also working well for those fishing at depth.

Hope this helps, and we hope you all had a great New Year! Now, go catch a fish!
