12.84 lb. Striper on the Colorado River

With all this wind and cold weather, how about some river fishing? This time of year, our water levels are low, with some fluctuations, but mostly low releases from the Davis Dam.

Our local angler, Bryan Werkmeister, was fishing from the shore at the Community Park area. He was using a swim bait and landed a nice striper weighing 12.84 pounds and measuring 32 inches. However, with the wind picking up, the fishing has slowed down considerably.

On Lake Mohave, small craft warnings have kept most anglers and boaters on shore, waiting for a break in the weather. The waves can get quite high and could swamp a boat if you're not careful. As a reminder, it's always a good practice to let someone know your plans and expected return time before heading out on the water—this applies even on calm days.

As for fishing, lures are working best right now, as our larger fish are coming up. Anchovies might work, but for trout anglers, night crawlers and worms are a good choice, while spinners are bringing in some nice catches as well.

We hope this helps, and we look forward to hearing about your catch and story when you come in. Thanks for all your support!

Now, go catch a fish!
